Descriptions:

The element symbol of indium is In, atomic number 49, atomic weight 114.8, silver-white metal, ductile, melting point 156.61 ℃, boiling point 2080 ℃, hardness 1.2, density 7.30g/c㎡. It is very stable in dry air at room temperature, and a film of hydroxide is formed on the surface in humid air. At high temperature, it burns with a bright purple flame and produces yellow indium trioxide. At higher temperature, it can interact with halogen, sulfur, selenium, phosphorus wait for direct compounding. Does not react with water, soluble in acid but insoluble in alkali. It mainly exists in cassiterite and sphalerite, and the abundance in the crust is 2.5×10-5% (mass). Indium is chemically or electrolytically extracted from sphalerite or soot.


Indium can be used to make low melting point alloys, bearing alloys, glass sealing alloys, dental filling alloys, etc.
